The History of the Workmen’s Circle in Montreal

In the early years of the twentieth century there were a number of Workmen’s Circle branches in Montreal. These branches ran schools, theater troupes, choirs, and organized many other cultural activities. Over the years the branches gradually closed, and the remaining activities came together in one house. In the past year the house itself also closed. With that, the history of the Workmen’s Circle in Montreal came to an end.
In our conversation, Shaul Edelstein will speak about the branches,
about the life and activities that took place in that house, and
about his own experiences in the final years of the organization.
